Today marks a year since our PCOS Vitality official logo was launched. Now is the perfect time to have a closer look at it and reflect on its meaning. The logo features both a pearl and a dragonfly. We think these are symbolic in relation to PCOS. Why? Well, listen up…
As far back as 1721, Vallisneri described a woman experiencing infertility who had enlarged, shiny ovaries with a white surface. This is thought to be one of the early discoveries of PCOS. The pearl is well known in PCOS circles as describing the appearance of poly “cystic” ovaries on ultrasound scans. The “cysts” which are immature follicles appear as white and silvery almost pearl like in appearance and if there are many they are said to resemble a string of pearls.
The dragonfly has flown the earth for 300 million years so like PCOS it is ancient. Dragonflies symbolise our ability to overcome times of hardship. They remind us to take time to reconnect with our own strength, courage and happiness. Comparisons can easily be drawn between the symbolism of dragonflies and our experiences with PCOS, wisdom, change, transformation, light and adaptability in life. They have strong wings.
So, both remind us of the need to shed more light and joy, we certainly hope we shed a little light and joy here at PCOS Vitality too…
